My name is Jess Simpson – I am a teacher-turned-yoga facilitator and mindfulness coach for kids and tweens. I am driven by a desire and calling to help children learn how to live a balanced life in our forever challenging times. I am passionate about yoga, meditation, mindfulness and other holistic practices myself which makes all of this, work that comes from the heart.

We are constantly facing an ongoing increase in emotional disorders amongst our children. Anxiety and depression being at the forefront of this, rising from 3,9% in 2004 – 5,8% in 2017 between the age groups of 5 and 15 years old. (*)

The constant pressure our children are facing in school environments as well as from society in general is only making these stats increase. Throughout my many years in teaching a major eye-opener was the age of children presenting symptoms of or being diagnosed with emotional disorders becoming younger and younger.

Our children of today will make the leaders of the future. The best we can do is support them in accessing the untapped potential within. My aim is to work with children to help equip them to become strong, centred and calm individuals who are good lateral thinkers by teaching them the fundamentals of breathwork, yoga, meditation and mindful coaching techniques; giving them the confidence to take these skills into their everyday lives and possess resilience and a quiet sense of strength when dealing with their own emotions or any changes they may face in their future.

I have a degree in Education from Nelson Mandela Metropolitan University and over ten years experience in teaching young children. I have an honours degree in Educational Psychology from the University of South Africa and have completed over 100 hours in courses focusing on discipline, bullying, play therapy as well as trauma counseling. I completed my 200 hour Yoga and Mindfulness facilitator and mindful coaching course through the School of Samaya and I am registered with the IPHM (International Practitioners of Holistic Medicine). I was lucky enough to be able to do all my practical work with the wonderful children in my Grade 2 class in 2018 at Reddam House Waterfall owned by the InspirEd Group. The feedback I received from the parents was overwhelmingly positive and doing this kind of work on a daily basis ignited a little spark inside me, making me even more excited to finally be able to start this journey of having my own practice dedicated purely to being a MindfulMentor!
